Details sought of aeroplane crash at Buxted in 1957
Do you know anything about an aeroplane crash on February 14, 1957 near Buxted?
The pilot, Lt B. Hartwell, ejected safely from his Westland Wyvern, a Royal Navy strike fighter operating from Royal Naval Air Station Ford in Sussex.
Rob Carter, who lives near Cambridge and has been researching and collecting parts of Wyvern aircraft for the past 20 years, would be grateful for any information or photos of the incident. He sent us this photo of the crashed Wyvern's sister aircraft VW886 with wings folded at Ford airfield.
Mr Carter said: "The Wyvern was a very large single seat aircraft so I'm hoping somebody remembers one coming down in that area. My information comes from a detailed book on the Wyvern published in the 1970s."
