Roadworks on A272 at Buxted
Roadworks are continuing over a short stretch of the A272 in Buxted, all prompted by new developments in the village.
At the Framfield Road junction with the main road, “developer-led” work has started to build an access to a new housing site being built behind the Buxted Inn.
A mini-roundabout will be constructed at the junction of the A272 and Framfield Road, as well as an access road to the new houses, effectively resulting in a “four-arm” mini roundabout at this location.
There will also be a pedestrian refuge island constructed just to the east of the new roundabout to assist pedestrians crossing the A272.
At the nearby Church Road junction with the A272, a different developer has carried out works required as part of a residential development off Church Road. A minor realignment of the junction has taken place with improvements to crossing facilities, and refreshing of white lining.
A county council spokesman said: “Following a site inspection we have reported to the developer that the footway resurfacing works at this site are not up to standard. Consequently these works will have to be redone.
“The contractor is also required to relocate a Belisha beacon located next to the zebra crossing. This beacon cannot be relocated for six weeks. The footway works will be redone after this to ensure that the surface is long-lasting.”
The spokesman said the work had been carried out by a developer-appointed contractor and “county council inspectors have picked up the problem and made sure it is addressed”.
Work is continuing on Buxted new health centre, close to the junction of the A272 and Framfield Road.
This will lead to more developer-led roadworks to create an access to the new surgery with a path and crossing facilities connecting the site to the new roundabout.
