Police pleased with results of Day of Action on Uckfield estate
Police, fire service and Wealden Council staff took a battering from wind and rain when they took part in a Quality Street Day of Action in Downsview Crescent, Uckfield, today.
But they were upbeat as packing up time approached and pleased with the results of their efforts.
Council workers collected 11 bags of litter from all the alleyways between Downsview Crescent and Tesco Express and a Community Payback team collected a van-load of greenery from cutting back undergrowth in the alleyways.
Neighbourhood PC for Uckfield Cathy Codling, pictured above, told Uckfield News the police had knocked on every door in Downsview Crescent, Montacute Way, Woodlands Close, Tower View, Larnach Close, Pine Walk, Sycamore Court and Birch Close.
They chatted with residents about any concerns they might have on the estate and talked about policing in the town.
PC Codling said most people’s worries related to issues they were already aware of such as parking problems, speeding and litter. There were ongoing efforts to find solutions to those.
She added: “Highways were here today as well. We have been in contact with them to see if they can assist us in dealing with the traffic problems.”
Staff from DVLA were there checking for unlicensed vehicles and representatives of VOSA, which oversees MOT testing also took part in the event.
In all about 30 people from different agencies contributed to the Quality Street campaign operating from a gazebo on the green at Pine Walk.
PC Codling said: “It has been a worthwhile day because we have had the chance to see people we would not normally have spoken to. That is very important to us. A lot has been achieved.”
