Study looks at affordable housing targets for Uckfield
Forty per cent of new homes on housing developments in Uckfield could realistically be in the 'affordable' catetgory, according to a study carried out be Wealden Council.
The regional target for affordable housing set out in the South East Plan is 35 per cent of all new housing though the target is slightly higher in south Wealden.
The latest Wealden study shows that house prices vary significantly across different parts of the district and that affects the amount of affordable housing which can be supported.
Many rural areas, particularly in the north of the district, may be capable of supporting up to 50 per cent affordable housing while still remaining viable.
Crowborough and Uckfield, the study states, should be capable of supporting 40 per cent affordable housing, with possibly a higher proportion on allocated greenfield sites.
However, for some areas in the south of the district, where house prices are generally lower, a more realistic proportion would be 35 per cent affordable housing.
The study findings will be added to other evidence gathered for the Local Development Framework and councillors will then decide appropriate targets for affordable housing within different parts of the district.
