Air ambulance in action on Manor Park Estate, Uckfield
Update (on Saturday, April 9, 8.01am): The little girl airlifted to hospital from The Dene on Wednesday with a head injury is now home. She has six stitches to her head but is doing well, according to her mother who has written on the Uckfield News Facebook page.
Update (on Thursday, April 7, 11am): The patient airlifted from The Dene, yesterday, was a girl who suffered a head injury after falling from a garden swing.
The Kent Air Ambulance was called at 4.12pm and took 12 minutes to get to the scene. The child was airlifted to King's College Hospital, London, in 12 minutes. She was accompanied by her mother.
A large crowd gathered around the edges of the green space with cars lining Browns Lane to watch the proceedings.
Two ambulance vehicles were also in attendance.
The Kent Air Ambulance is often deployed to Uckfield because its base near Maidstone is geographically closer to the town than the Sussex air ambulance, which flies from Dunsfold.
The Air Ambulance service in Kent, Surrey and Sussex costs around £3.4 million annually to stay airborne.
Receiving no funding from the National Lottery, the charity relies almost entirely upon the generosity of the public to support the two helicopters.
