Approval given for all-weather sports pitch to be built in Uckfield

Planning permission has been given for an all-weather sports pitch in Uckfield.

The go ahead was given yesterday at an East Sussex County Council planning meeting.

Opening hours were approved as recommended to councillors and will be from 9am to 9pm Mondays to Saturdays and 9am to 7pm on Sundays, Bank and Public Holidays.

Jeremy Hallett, a town councillor who is also on the All Weather Pitch for Uckfield committee said it was great news.

He said: “The committee will now be continuing its work, both with clubs and locals who may have reservations about the pitch, to help get the funding completed and ensuring it is successful once it is in operation.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime Olympic year for Great Britain and a once-in-a-lifetime chance for Uckfield to get such a facility for its residents to use. Anyone interested in helping should please contact info@awp4u.co.uk or ring Uckfield Community Technology College on 01825 764844 ext 1252."

Hugh Hennebry, principal at the college said he was looking forward to achieving an ambitious sports development plan which has two main aims.

They are:

  • A top quality pitch that will bring on and nurture talented players and enable county and national level sporting talent to thrive and
  • Health, fitness and sport participation for all people in the local community including young children, players with disabilities, women, people of all ages and college primary partner school students.

Gordon Buckland of Grasshoppers Junior Football Club and Alan Sallows of Uckfield Rugby Football Club said they were delighted to hear the news.

There's more information in a story we carried earlier this week: Uckfield all-weather sports pitch recommended for approval.
