Two Uckfield men accused of attempting to pervert course of justice

Two Uckfield men were arrested yesterday on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice relating to a fatal collision on the A272 between Hadlow Down and Buxted.

Police say the men were aged 20 and 21 years.

The collision happened on Friday, July 15, and involved a Ford Fiesta and a Vauxhall Meriva. Paul Hulse, 19, a passenger in the Fiesta, died in hospital afterwards. Police were called at 10pm.

A 19-year-old man from Uckfield was arrested on August 1 on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and "taking a conveyance". He has been bailed until October 15 pending further enquiries.

Sgt Dan Pitcher of Sussex Police's Roads Policing Unit said: "We are still piecing together what happened during the collision and would like to hear from anyone who may have seen either of the vehicles driving in the area shortly before the collision and hasn't yet spoken to police."

The Vauxhall Meriva is described as being light in colour and was being driven in an easterly direction shortly before the collision.

The Ford Fiesta is described as dark and was being driven in a westerly direction shortly before the collision.
