'21st century barber' prepares to open in Uckfield
Wet shaves and spray tanning will be on offer alongside hair cutting at a new barber’s shop which is opening in Uckfield.
Professional Hair Design for Him is planning an open afternoon on Saturday, July 9, from noon until 5pm so people can learn more before the business opens.
Owner David Thomas is taking over premises at the top of Uckfield High Street, next door to the Dianne Hutt Gallery, which were last occupied by a kitchen shop.
He is preparing to open an up-market, “21st century” barber’s shop but with High Street prices.
David said: “Traditionally men have queued to see a barber and left quickly to make way for the next person. We are trying to take the pace out of the experience.”
Refreshments will be available, on the house, with a consultation offered before a haircut.
There will be three stylists initially, including David.
“We want to make a visit here more of an experience, with people walking away afterwards feeling fantastic. We will be very customer orientated and want to deliver a VIP service with everybody coming in being made to feel special,” said David.
He is pleased to be offering increasingly popular spray tanning and also wet shaves which provide a closer shave and an energising experience.
“They include face massage and moisturising and encourage a feel-good factor,” he said.
Opening hours will be from 9am to 6pm to start with but David will be asking customers what times would suit them best.
Late evening opening a couple of times a week or early starts could be introduced, for example.
Prices for a hair cut will be around £12 with under 15s and over 65s charged £10.
