Plans to demolish school 'shed' at Blackboys and build new room
A wooden shed used as a learning support centre at Blackboys Primary School could be replaced with a modern, self-contained room.
The present building described, in a planning application, as “not unlike a garden shed” was originally the changing rooms for a long since in-filled outdoor swimming pool.
It is used for groups of children by specialist staff and outside agencies and, since the building faces the playing field, it doubles up as a changing room when necessary.
Proposals before Wealden Council are to demolish the building and replace it with a modern room, toilet facilities and a wash up area.
“The use of the building will remain as existing, the size is to be increased slightly although this will be into the school grounds, not towards neighbouring properties in The Green to preserve their privacy,” documents say.
“The increased size will allow a more practical class layout since at present the room is very cramped when occupied by any more than a very small group of children.”
The design and access statement adds: “It is also important to note that although the school has been altered in recent years this was to replace temporary classrooms with permanent spaces; the overall number of classrooms has remained constant.
“The Supercentre will remain a dedicated, separate building devoted to learning support and occasional games changing usage.”
