Brighter Uckfield Campaign to re-launch as volunteer group
The Brighter Uckfield Campaign which was started by Uckfield Town Council is to re-launch as a separate volunteer group.
A public meeting is to be held on Tuesday, October 18, in the Martlets Room at Uckfield Civic Centre, at 7.30pm to plan for the future.
A constitution will be adopted at the meeting and officers - chairman, secretary and treasurer - will be appointed. This will allow a bank account to be set up and the group will be able seek financial support, for example, through sponsorship.
Lead co-ordinator of the campaign Ian Smith said volunteers have been out and about the town collecting litter for several years but now the close ties with the town council were being cut the campaign needed to attract finance and sponsorship from local businesses and people to carry on its good work.
A new logo - selected from suggestions by pupils of Rocks Park Primary School - is to be launched at the meeting.
Volunteer Beryl Venables said: "The old logo - the Mucky Duck - is great, but does not reflect how the campaign has developed from a litter-collecting activity to embracing introduction of plant displays, to weed clearance and even to painting buildings."
