Uckfield night club licensing hours to be discussed next week
An application to extend licensing hours at The Broadway night club in Uckfield is due to be considered by Wealden Council next week.
The council's licensing committee, which meets on Thursday, will also consider adding Performance of Dance to the club's licence. That would take the form of 'occasional exotic dancing and striptease-to-music performances'.
The Police, Wealden Council pollution control team and Wealden Council public protection team have all made representations about the proposals. Each has requested retention of different special conditions in the licence.
Seventy other representations were received but 16 were not deemed relevant and three were deemed out of time. A report to the committee says those 'deemed relevant' included objections relating to the prevention of crime and disorder and prevention of public nuisance.
'It is widely alleged there are frequent instances of crime and disorder and public nuisance outside, in the vicinity of, and on the access routes to and from the premises, which leads to general concern that the granting of additional authorised hours in respect of all licensable activities will lead to an increase in such events and an extension of the resulting disturbance experienced by residents and businesses as a result of them,' says the report.
Other concerns relate to 'moral grounds' against the inclusion of the Performance of Dance as a licensable activity.
