Village shop could be split in two

Plans have been submitted to turn the building housing Buxted Stores in the village High Street into two shops.

An application before Wealden Council says a separating wall could be built through the centre of the existing shop. Part of the premises would be retained to sell groceries and provisions while it is not yet known what the other would be used for.

Permission is being sought which would allow a range of uses including a shop or for financial and professional services or as a restaurant or cafe.

Access to one of the shops would be through the existing entrance off the High Street while a previously blocked doorway would be opened up for access to the second. A ramp would also be provided there for disabled access.

The application has been submitted by Mr A. Patel. WD/2009/0956
