Five-star celebration planned at Herons Ghyll care home
There’s to be a five-star celebration at Manor Gardens care home at Herons Ghyll on Saturday.
Residents are inviting family and friends to a party where there will be a barbecue and entertainment for all, including face painting for children.
Chef Gloria Satterfield, who has just earned the home a five-star award from Wealden District Council and the Food Standards Agency, is looking forward to showing off her skills.
Two marquees will be set up in the grounds and guests will be greeted with Pymms and canapes.
Gloria said barbecues are proving popular with residents at the home. “We’ve had a few this summer and residents are really enjoying them – some had never been to a barbecue before.”
There are now 44 residents at Manor Gardens and 62 members of staff on the books.
A second chef has just been recruited and activities co-ordinator Stephanie Wheeler is pleased to have an assistant now.
“As the home grows we are finding more people getting involved in the activities we plan,” said Stephanie.
These range from parachute exercise to reminiscing sessions and from pizza-making to bowling.
Joanne Ellison, one of the owners, said everything is now in place for the home to reach capacity, accommodating a further 16 people.
Joanne said: “We have expanded slowly to focus on recruiting the right staff, local people who are committed to their role in caring for the elderly, and now we are looking forward to building on what has been achieved.
“All of our residents have come to us via word of mouth and everybody here is dedicated to making this a happy home for them.”
