Children's care home at Framfield could be extended
A children's care home in Framfield could be extended and altered to provide places allowing three more children to live there.
Plans before Wealden Council say Greenacres Care Home - in an extended 1930s property - would be extended and the ground floor would be partially remodelled to provide a fully accessible facility.
"The care home currently provides much needed care for up to five children with learning disabilities and other associated challenging behaviours. Unfortunately, children's services in the local area are in high demand and spaces are full."
Three extra spaces would reduce the burden on children's services and provide a comfortable home for up to eight children close to their birthplace and families, says a design and access statement.
A level of care would be provided to empower the young people to develop skills, promote independence, improve self-esteem and build social skills.
The new wing would be built at the rear of the property at ground floor to provide a new level entrance.
A garage and two other rooms would be converted into three large bedrooms with an excessible bathroom and specialist wet room.
A new bathroom is also proposed which would be fitted within the roof of the single-storey extension and access from an existing half-landing.
Change of use from dwelling house to residential institution is also sought. This is necessary because more children would be cared for there.
