Mobile classroom to be used at Uckfield community college
Land once used as a children’s play area but now described as a redundant games court behind the youth centre in Downsview Crescent, Uckfield, is to be the site for a double mobile classroom.
Wealden Council says it does not object to a planning application submitted by East Sussex County Council.
Documents with the application say two general teaching classrooms will transfer from the main Uckfield Community Technology College building to the mobile classroom.
The aim is to create space within the main building to provide facilities to support pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
A design and access statement says: “The college has close links with the neighbouring Manor Primary School where an ASD facility has been in place for a number of years.
“Providing a dedicated facility at the college will help pupils with transition from primary to secondary and continue to support pupils through their education life.”
The college and children’s services are to explore ways of providing permanent accommodation but funding is limited and this is expected to take some time to achieve.
“In the meantime we are seeking planning consent for the proposed double mobile classroom for a period of five years,” says the statement.
