Uckfield Volunteer Centre plans to make 21 community awards
Uckfield Volunteer Centre is 21-years-old and plans to celebrate by making 21 community awards later this year.
The centre was set up by Social Services as the Uckfield and District Volunteer Bureau in 1991 but gained its independence over the years.
It now covers local information as well as volunteering issues and so a few years ago became the Uckfield Volunteer and Information Centre.
There are plans to celebrate the anniversary around June 21 or 22 and Sheila Charlesworth, acting manager at the centre, is prompting people to start thinking of suitable candidates for the community awards.
The centre organises regular community lunches and the next is due to take place on Friday, February 24, at the Luxford Centre at the top of the car park in the centre of town.
The speakers, who will include Elizabeth Bowring from Trading Standards, will begin at noon and the lunch at 12.45pm.
The volunteer centre is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 1pm and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 4pm.
