Community garden is refurbished

Refurbishment of a disused community garden next to the playing field in Hadlow Down has begun.

The aim is to install raised beds for plants, two greenhouses, a barbecue area and three sheds on the site for the School Lane Community Association. Traditional fruit trees will be planted along the border furthest from the playing field.

Fencing has been added inside the hedge boundary of the shared garden and a gate installed to control access from the playing field. There are plans for another gate.

Concrete paths have been laid and existing paths upgraded to enable access for the disabled. Concrete bases have been laid for the sheds and a water supply provided.

Now planning permission is sought for the greenhouses and sheds.

Wealden Council owns the site, has funded the work done so far and is willing to fund further work subject to planning approval.

Update:

Saturday, July 3, 2010. This planning application has been approved by Wealden Council.
