Up to 200 jobs to go as county council makes savings

Government action to tackle the national deficit means East Sussex County Council will have to make savings of £100 million over the next four years.

That's the message in a report to be discussed by the County Council's Cabinet today, January 25.

The council is proposing to save £37 million in the first year (2011/12). This will include £20 million from Children's Services.

Between 150 and 200 jobs are likely to go in 2011/12 though the council says it will be doing all it can to reduce the need for compulsory redundancy by using voluntary redundancy, natural wastage, redeployment and not filling posts that become vacant.
