Campaign to save Uckfield doctor

Campaign to save Uckfield doctor

Posters have appeared around Uckfield saying "Save Dr Oliver" and a Facebook page has been set up too asking townspeople to show their support for the doctor.

The posters say Dr Oliver has been sacked.

"If you want Dr Oliver to practice here in Uckfield act now," say the posters.

"Go to Facebook and look up Save Dr Oliver. Join the campaign and tell the PCT you want Dr Oliver as your doctor."

Dr Jim Oliver is senior partner of The Meads Surgery and the Facebook page says he has provided 17 years of exceptional care for patients.

"To lose this good doctor would be a travesty for our town. Help us to save him."

People are asked to write to Mr Mike Wood, chief executive of the East Sussex Downs and Weald PCT or email him at mike.wood@hastingsrotherpct.nhs.uk

The Meads Surgery refused to comment.

The PCT said:

“We are aware of the situation at the Meads Surgery in Uckfield with Dr Oliver not available to see patients.

"We would like to stress that this is an internal practice matter and so it would be inappropriate for us to make any comment.

"We are working closely with the Meads Surgery to ensure that patients can continue to get an appointment to see a GP in a timely manner and that patient care remains unaffected.

"If any patients have any queries they should contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on tel 0300 1000 891."
