Uckfield ecologist supports online petition against sale of forests

Uckfield ecologist Dr Martyn Stenning is urging people to sign an online petition to prevent the Government selling off national forests to private individuals.

Dr Stenning is chairman of nature reserves at Hempstead Meadows and West Park, heavily involved in the management of Lake Wood and chairman of Lime Aid, the organisation working to restore Lime Tree Avenue to its former glory.

In urging people to sign the petition he says: “In most of Britain the land has been severely deforested. I understand that barely five per cent of Britain is forest compared with about 30 per cent in France. We cannot afford to lose more of our green lungs.”

If you would like to know more here is a link to the petition.

Read more, on the Lime Aid website (scroll down to a story dated October 22, 2008), about Dr Stenning and an award he received, from Wealden Council, in recognition of the work he does in helping protect and manage ecologically important sites in Uckfield.
