Make sure you have a vote in elections on May 5

An estimated three per cent of eligible voters are not yet registered to vote in district, town and parish council elections which are due to be held on May 5.

Anybody who has moved house since October 15 last year could find themselves without a vote, according to Wealden Council. They need to register at their new address.

Thursday, May 5, also sees the first nationwide referendum since 1975 on the voting system  to the UK Parliament and registration is needed to take part in that.

A registration form is available by calling Wealden's Electoral Services department on 01892 602417 or by printing off a form from the website www.aboutmyvote.co.uk, filling it in and then posting it to Wealden Council.

Phillippa Saray from the Electoral Commission, the independent elections watchdog adds: "Residents may also be planning to go away on May 5, given the extra Bank Holiday for the Royal Wedding so it's worth applying now to vote by post or proxy if that will suit your plans."
