2010 date for 'Extra Care' flats
Work on building 39 flats where elderly people can be supported to live independently in Uckfield is set to carry on for another year.
The site at Lealands Drive – formerly the Lealands Court flats – will have 19 one-bedroom flats and 20 two-bedroom flats when it is finished in the autumn of next year.
A giant crane, which can be seen from around the town and some surrounding villages, is at present a landmark on the development of what is known as Extra Care homes.
The scheme gives residents privacy, their own front door but with personal care on hand, if wanted.
There are also communal areas including a restaurant, meeting rooms, hairdressing suite, residents’ lounge and an activities centre.
Residents will decide if they want to use these facilities and mix with their neighbours.
