Film-makers will be in action at UCTC next week

Film-makers will be helping Uckfield Community Technology College students to produce a documentary next week.

The college has been chosen by Hadlow Down-based charity Sound Architect (Music and Film) Ltd to take part in a thought-provoking Hitting Home programme about domestic abuse.

Year 10 Media students will be learning about domestic abuse and the effect it can have on individuals and families and using their creative and media skills to produce the documentary which will then be filmed.

Project manager Glenys Lake said: "Hitting Home is designed to promote awareness to young people aged 12-16 through the creative media of film and drama that everybody has a right to feel safe."

The process started in 2009 when four women survivors of domestic abuse were filmed telling their stories.

A group of eight members from Heathfield Drama Group then enacted people's stories and some of that material will be used at UCTC to provoke group discussion and activity.

The material gathered from the project will be developed as an education pack for use in schools and there will be a special display next year at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill.
