Prosecution could follow removal of fireplace from listed building
Prosecution could follow the “unlawful” removal of a fireplace from an apartment at the Grade 1 listed Sheffield Park House, Fletching.
Wealden Council resolved, subject to legal opinion, to take enforcement action requiring “prosecution and/or seek reinstatement of fireplace components”.
A report going to a meeting of the planning sub-committee, north, on Thursday says there has since been an interview, under caution, undertaken during an inspection and investigations and enquiries were continuing with a view to possible prosecution proceedings.
The fireplace has been located and a letter sent to the responsible parties giving 14 days to apply to reinstate it and warning that otherwise a listed building enforcement notice would be prepared requiring reinstatement.
That enforcement notice is being drafted along with a schedule for works.
