Offices at New Town, Uckfield, could be turned into flats

Update on Sunday, February 20, 2011: This planning application has been refused because it "would result in the loss of existing business premises within a sustainable town centre location".

Plans have been submitted to turn first floor offices in New Town, Uckfield, into two flats.

The proposal, for 39a High Street, above Cannadines Kitchens and Bathrooms, has been submitted by Marten Properties.

A statement with planning documents says the building readily lends itself to change of use to two flats. One would have a single bedroom with bathroom and kitchen diner.

The second, to the rear, would have two bedrooms and a galleried study area within the existing vaulted ceiling.

“In changing the emphasis from offices to residential this would be in keeping with the character of the area,” says the statement.

It says the existing building was originally a vehicle service centre with offices above. This was altered in 1981 from workshop and showrooms to offices. The premises were extended in 1998 to provide additional office accommodation.

There is more information on the Wealden Council website.
