County council takes over flood duties from Environment Agency
East Sussex County Council is to take over responsibility from the Environment Agency for dealing with some flooding, its aftermath and prevention.
A report to Uckfield Town Council's environment and leisure committee, which meets on Monday, says the change is coming into force as a result of the Flood Water Management Act, 2010.
It adds that a flood assessment is currently being undertaken by the county council and town councillors may participate by answering questionnaires sent out by the town clerk.
In January we reported that the county council was to hold a drop-in session in Uckfield to hear details of people's memories of flooding.
The council was seeking information about the timing, frequency, extent and impact of flooding from surface water, ground water and minor water courses.
The River Uck is a main river and falls outside the county council's responsibilities and remains the responsibility of the Environment Agency.
