Crash in London Road, Uckfield
Update: 11.10am Monday, November 7, 2011 - Police are seeking witnesses to a hit and run incident in Uckfield which left a motorcyclist with a serious back injury.
They have released more information about the crash updating it to say the motorcyclist involved was from Crowborough. His injury is not assessed as life threatening.
The crash happened in London Road, Uckfield, at about 7pm on Friday, November 4, when the motocycle being ridden south was hit from behind by a silver Vauxhall Vectra which did not stop at the scene.
The Vectra was later found parked nearby and a 35-year-old Uckfield man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop after a collision. He was later released on police bail until December 17 while inquiries continue.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "We believe that the Vectra was travelling in company with a Vauxhall Astra van, which has not yet been traced, and anyone who saw two such vehicles immediately before the collision or who saw the collision itself, is asked to contact us via 101 quoting serial 1434 of November 4. You can also call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
Previous update: 8.37am Saturday, November 5, 2011 - Police are hunting the driver of a car which failed to stop after striking a motorcyclist from behind in London Road, Uckfield, last night.
The 20-year-old local motorcyclist was seriously injured in the crash which happened at about 7pm.
Police said he was heading south along the road when struck by the car.
A silver Vauxhall Vectra was later recovered by police near the scene which has been linked to the incident.
As well as hunting the driver of the car the police are trying to trace a Vauxhall Astra van which appeared to have been travelling with the Vectra at the time of the accident.
Police had no further information about the motorcyclist and his condition.
They have asked that anybody with information about the incident call 101 quoting the number 1434.
Our report on Friday night - Police are dealing (Friday, November 4, at 7.45pm) with an accident in London Road, Uckfield.
Three police cars are attending the scene which is opposite West View on the Manor Park estate.
A paramedic car and an ambulance have also attended.
Traffic was reduced to single file.
A patient, lying on the road, was being treated by ambulance staff. Some yards further south there was a motor-cycle on its side on the pavement.
Update at 9.10pm - London Road was closed with traffic travelling northwards being diverted, by police, into Browns Lane. There were still blue lights flashing in the area of the crash.
