Uckfield Town Council's concern over fun fair's debt

Monty Hammond's Fun Fair owes Uckfield Town Council £2,175, according to a report due to go before councillors next week.

The debt is one of three described as "bad" that councillors are being asked to note at a meeting of the general purposes committee on Monday, January 24.

A report says £987.89 has been paid by the fair but no further payments have been received. It adds "the family is now running the business and not Monty Hammond himself".

"The council may wish to make a claim through the small claims court, and if the court found in the town council's favour and the fun fair subsequently defaulted on payment the bailiffs could be instructed.

"However, as mentioned at the last meeting the sheriff, (technically the bailiff) has already stated there are no assets to seize."

The report also says that Masereikai Martial Arts agreed to pay of a debt of £561.63 at a rate of £40 a month.

It adds that another debt relating to Mr J. Rimmer is with the County Court for judgement.
