Moves to supply gas fuel for vehicles at Maresfield service station

Update on Sunday, February 20, 2011: This planning application has been approved by Wealden Council.

Moves are being made to supply drivers with gas fuel for their vehicles at a service station in Maresfield, just outside Uckfield.

Plans have been submitted for three one tonne LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) tanks to be placed on land at the Ashdown Forest Service Station on the Maresfield by-pass.

A dispenser for the gas would added in the existing island used by motorists refuelling their vehicles.

A planning application says: “Whilst the current site offers the usual and expected facilities of a modern petrol filling station there is now a need to offer retail LPG as demand increases. Geographically this site is ideally located to provide the area with an easy accessible LPG facility.”

The storage containers would be on land to the left of the forecourt entrance.

“Given the scale and location of the scheme it is considered that the proposal will have no detrimental impact on the surrounding areas whilst offering the public an alternative fuel, therefore in our opinion we feel the application should be granted.

“The proposal is mainly constructed above ground and no deep excavation is proposed therefore it is not envisaged any contamination issues will be relevant to the proposal.”
