Independent greengrocer opens in Uckfield today
Fresh fruit and vegetables, cheeses and chutneys will be among goods sold at the new Hartfields Produce Store opening in Uckfield today.
The town has been without an independent greengrocer's for 16 years but James Hartfield, who lives in Bridge Farm Road, has been looking for the right premises for his business for some time and is delighted by the interest shown in his plans.
This is his first retail venture but he has previous experience in catering and working as a chef. His shop is set back from the High Street between Uckfield Electrics and the Post Office in premises formerly occupied by Chilli Peppers which has moved to the Hop Barn.
He said: “I just love food, making food, sourcing food, and will have a really wide range of fresh fruit and veg with as much sourced locally as possible. It will be good quality at a sensible price.”
He will also sell olives and other antipasti and, on Fridays and Saturdays, artisan bread, made at a bakery in Glynde.
* The former Crannages shop at the top of Uckfield High Street is to re-open as a men's barber shop, according to Chris Lawson of Lawson Commercial.
* It is understood that the former Fludes shop at the junction of High Street and Civic Approach is to be opened as a wine shop.
