Renewable energy takes off

Heat generated on the roof of a fire station is to be pumped into the ground and stored until needed in the winter months ... and an Uckfield company is helping to make this happen.

Paynes Heating and Plumbing have been researching renewable sources of energy over the last five years and are now reaping the benefits of their investment by gaining contracts like the one at the London fire station.

Not only will it possible for the heat to be stored until needed but electricity will also be generated to be sold back to the national grid.

Paynes have been experimenting with ground and air source heat pumps as well as solar installations and recently opened a showroom at their Blackboys headquarters where people are welcome to go along and learn more.

The business was set up 27 years ago in Uckfield and has moved four times as it has grown over the years. It employs 65 people now and is still recruiting.
