Plans to turn premises used by photographic business into flats

Three one-bedroom studio homes could be provided just off Uckfield High Street, if planners agree.

An application to convert The Showroom, Locksfield Terrace, Hempstead Rise, has been lodged with Wealden District Council.

In a design and access statement accompanying the application, Mid Sussex Homes says the premises have had various commercial uses over the years but “most recently were occupied by MXV Photographic and a second-hand photographic equipment retail outlet with an ancillary photographic equipment restoration business.

“MXV Photographic went into administration in September of this year whilst the repair business has moved to alternative premises in the area.”

The statement says the premises have proved unsuitable for commercial use due to their “back-street” location and are within an otherwise wholly residential street

“The planning application is therefore made to change the use of the premises into a more appropriate residential use that would site more easily within its environment,” the statement says.
