'Trial run' for craft workshops plan at Herons Ghyll
Plans to turn redundant farm buildings near Uckfield into craft workshops and exhibition space have been approved by Wealden District Council.
The conditional permission for works at Hendall Manor, Herons Ghyll, will expire on December 1, 2013, and prohibits the playing of music outside the premises (unless the council agrees). A 9.30pm curfew is placed on indoor music.
The temporary permission is to allow the effects of the development to be monitored.
Improvements to the access from the A26 must be carried out before the buildings come into use.
A report to members of the council’s planning committee (north) said: “The application envisages a variety of leisure and education uses. Facilitating works include improvements to bring the buildings back into active use (for which listed building consent has already been granted and significant works undertaken) a new access and conversion of existing barns on site to provide a 48-space car park.”
An earlier scheme for the site had been rejected and councillors were told the “assessment of this case is complex”.
Objectors were worried about noise and disturbance from events, the intensity of use in an area of outsanding natural beauty and road safety.
