Land at the entrance to Hunters Way could be developed
New homes could be built on land at the entrance to Hunters Way in Uckfield.
Uckfield Town Council's environment and leisure committee has decided there should be an informal meeting with Wealden District Council to discuss the possibility.
Dependent on the outcome the committee has also agreed to seek a valuation of the land which was transferred to the council in 1973 by Algrey Developments.
It is in Rocks Road either side of the entrance to Hunters Way.
It had been put forward for inclusion in a Wealden Council list of sites with potential for housing development but was rejected because it could not take the minimum of six homes required.
Now the town council is considering the possibility of selling land to the west of the entrance to Hunters Way for two houses to be built.
A report to the environment and leisure committee which met earlier this month said the land was designated as a public open space but recreation was not encouraged and 'No Ball Games' signs had been placed there. The grass was purposely left long to further discourage active recreation.
The report said: "The council has already indicated their willlingness to consider the disposal of this area of land for housing ... Members may accordingly look to dispose of the land for a fewer number of dwellings.
"Members are reminded they have agreed an ambitious programme of capital works in the next five years and have expressed concerns as to how this will eventually be funded."
