Could you be a Jesus or a Judas?

The Ubends drama group based in East Hoathly is looking for a Jesus and a Judas as it begins rehearsals for a production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

The rock opera is based on the last seven days of the life of Christ and sprang on to our stages in the seventies becoming a smash hit in the West End and on Broadway as well as a much acclaimed film.

Music and lyrics were written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice and most people are able to hum at least one of the songs from the show even if they are more familiar with schoolyard chants rather than the true lyrics.

The lead roles of Jesus and Judas require tenor voices that are able to sing with empathy as there is no dialogue, the whole story being sung.

A vocal range from Tenor low D to high E (Judas) and Tenor low B flat to high E with optional high G (Jesus).

The Ubends perform in the church at East Hoathly on a purpose-built stage.

Previous shows have included Godspell and Joseph and have been as varied as Crazy for You, 42nd Street and Oklahoma.

To learn more about becoming involved please contact director Collette Goodwin on 01273 475648 or producer Jan Burdon on 01825 840509.
