Students from Uckfield Community Technology College have helped design a new library membership card for teenagers.
The youngsters joined wtih students from Tideway School in Newhaven, Willingdon Community School, and Rye College in special design workshops with staff from East Sussex County Council’s Library Service.
The final design was then chosen after a popular vote on the Connexions 360 website.
The new ‘TEEN’ design for 11-15 year olds, which will be used on membership cards, leaflets and shelves in libraries, was launched this week at Rye Library by author, Jill Hucklesby.
Jill is known to teens in the county as the author of the 1066 Schools’ Book Award winner in 2008, ‘Deeper than Blue’ which has now been optioned for television.
Jill’s latest book, ‘If I could Fly’ was long-listed for Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize.
Young people aged 11-15 years can get the new TEEN membership card at any library and the design will gradually be introduced to all County Council libraries to highlight library services for teenagers.
