Record start to Uckfield Lions Christmas fund-raising event

A record £260 was raised yesterday on the first day of selling Christmas draw tickets at Waitrose, Uckfield, to raise funds for charities supported by the Lions' Club.

Lion Bob Eaves said this was one of the main fund-raising events of the year for the club.

He added: We are grateful for the support of the people of Uckfield and district in supporting this even and even in these straightened times are hoping to raise more than ever for their local and international causes.

Waitrose and its predecessors at the High Street store have supported the event for many years.

Previously the main prize was a three minute trolley dash round the supermarket but this year thanks to Waitrose the prizes will be £200, £100 and £50 vouchers will will be redeemable in the supermarket or at any John Lewis Partnership store.
