Uckfield man dies in car crash

A 29-year-old Uckfield man died in a crash near Burgess Hill yesterday.

He was a passenger in a Ford Ka and the driver, a 27-year-old man also from Uckfield, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious but not life threatening injuries.

Police said emergency services were called at 1.07pm to the B2112 between Wivelsfield and Ditchling Common, outside St Georges Retreat where two cars, the northbound Ka and a southbound Volve S40 had collided.

The Volvo driver, a 66-year-old Burgess Hill man, and his passenger, a 66-year-old woman also from Burgess Hill, were also treated at the Royal Sussex County Hospital for cuts and bruises.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "Road policing officers are investigating and would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened. If you can help please call on 101 quoting Operation Caldbeck."
