Shortage of councillors leaves Maresfield in 'difficulty'
The lack of people wishing to stand as parish councillors has left Maresfield in “some difficulty”.
After the May elections, there were only eight councillors, six short of the full number.
It means the council has lost its Quality Council status.
As well as a loss of prestige, Maresfield will not be able to obtain extra money to use the new “Localsim” legislation, which is designed to give a greater say to communities to manage the use of local land, local services and environmental matters.
The shortage of councillors also means there are fewer people to carry out work in the village, such as Speed Watch, planning visits, footpath supervision and tree management.
The council is looking for more councillors and if anyone is interested they should contact the parish office on 01825 714555.
