New Uckfield flats for the elderly due to be completed in November
New flats for the elderly being built in Lealands Drive, Uckfield, are due to be completed in November.
'Extra care' will be offered there by Wealden Council in a scheme developed in partnership with Saxon Weald Housing Association and East Sussex County Council Adult Social Care.
The aim is to provide a higher degree of affordable independence for older people, according to the district council.
On-site facilities will include: a seven-day per week restaurant, available both to residents and the local community, a treatment/beauty therapy area, communal lounges and seating areas, assisted bathing facilities, buggy stores, secure landscaped grounds.
The development will be called Margaret House and include 39 one and two-bedroom flats. Ten will be for sale on a shared equity basis and the remaining 29 will be for rent for the over-60s with an on-site professional care team providing 24-hour emergency cover and care.
