£6 million housing scheme is officially opened in Uckfield
The official opening of a £6.34 million housing scheme for older people took place in Uckfield on Thursday.
Margaret House, in Lealands Drive, was named after Margaret Kirkpatrick, a the former Wealden district councillor who was guest of honour at the ceremony.
Mrs Kirkpatrick made "an enormous contribution" to housing matters and tenants during her 24 years with the council, according to Mary Clare Deane, director of community services with the council.
The former councillor is pictured, above right, with Cllr Bill Bentley, lead member for adult social care on East Sussex County Council, and Mr David Standfast, chief executive of the housing association Saxon Weald which owns and manages Margaret House.
The 39 one and two bedroom apartments enable people, with support, to live independently in their own homes.
A restaurant is open to residents, guests and members of the community.
A grant towards the scheme was provided by the Homes and Communities Agency.
Mr Standfast said: “This is a fantastic illustration of how good housing for older people who need care can be.
"We’re delighted with the quality and design of Margaret House, and grateful to the contractors, Denne, for doing such a good job.”
