Uckfield mayor re-elected
John Carvey, pictured right, was re-elected Uckfield Town Mayor last night. He was unopposed and continues in office for a second year.
He told the annual meeting of the council that last year had been a “steep learning curve” and he hoped to do better in the year ahead. “With your help it will be a very good year. I can only be a good mayor if I have the backing of everybody on this council,” he said.
Cllr Duncan Bennett, pictured left, was re-elected deputy mayor.
Committee chairmen: General purposes, Cllr Ian Smith (vice-chairman, Cllr Louise Eastwood); environment and leisure, Cllr Helen Firth (vice-chairman, Cllr Mick Harker); plans, Cllr Thelma Rumbelow (vice-chairman, Cllr Jim Molesworth-Edwards). Sub committee chairman: personnel, Cllr Alan Whittaker; finance, Cllr Mick Harker.
Councillor agreed there would be no increase in their allowances. The basic allowance, recommended by the Wealden Parish Remuneration Panel, is £835pa.
