Plans to build next to 141 High Street, Uckfield, are approved
Plans to build a new house between Hughes Way and 141 High Street, Uckfield, have been approved by Wealden Council.
Access will be through a gate from the High Street and from an access road behind the property.
The original planning application to build on the site was refused by Wealden Council but an appeal was allowed by a Government inspector.
In approving the latest proposal the district council acknowledged the concern of Uckfield Town Council but pointed out that in allowing the previous appeal the inspector said although the proposed dwelling would fill most of the available space he did not consider it would cause "unacceptable harm" having regard to the compact character and appearance of the housing to the south and the openness of the street scene opposite the site around the junction with Southview Drive.
"He was of the opinion that the ... dwelling would be in keeping with the general character and appearance of this side of the High Street." The massing of the new house would be subservient, lower in height and considerably smaller in scale than number 141.
The district council concluded: "Having regard to the Inspector's comments it is considered that there would be no material grounds for the council to reach a different decision on the current scheme."
