New Uckfield-London train timetable began yesterday

Train operator Southern’s new winter timetable began yesterday (December 12).

There are important changes to early morning and late evening services on the Uckfield line.

There was uproar in May when changes introduced then meant workers could not get to London Bridge before 7.45am.

The first service of the morning will now leave Uckfield at 05:45 instead of 06:00. It will call at Buxted at 05:50.

There is a later service from London Bridge to Uckfield departing the capital at 23:04 arriving in Uckfield at 00:16 (00.10 Buxted).

Feedback

Before the latest changes were agreed Wealden MP Charles Hendry asked people for feedback on the proposals. See our previous story Proposal for new early morning train from Uckfield.

He said later that feedback showed overwhelming support for the introduction of such a service which would enable commuters to get to London in 70 minutes, rather than the 110 minutes the service currently takes.

Mr Hendry added: "This is very good news for commuters and I am very grateful to Southern for responding in this way to travellers' concerns.

"I am also very pleased that they are proposing to introduce a new late-night direct service from London to Uckfield, leaving after 11pm. This will make it possible for people to have a full evening out in London and still get home by train."

Mr Hendry said both timetable changes were significant and welcome improvements.
