Uckfield High Street office could be converted for residential use
Update on Sunday, February 20, 2011: This planning application was refused by Wealden Council.
Offices formerly occupied by an architect at the top of Uckfield High Street could be converted into residential accommodation.
The whole of the Grade II listed four-storey building at 218A High Street, north of Maggie’s tea shop, is empty at the moment.
Documents submitted with the proposal, from by Mrs Dawn O’Connor, say the property, which has a timber-clad frontage, has stood empty for some time despite being marketed by the previous owners.
“As no commercial interest was generated it is now proposed to change the permitted usage of the ground floor and make the entire premises residential.”
The existing bay “shop front” would be replaced with “something more suitable for domestic habitation”. The front door would also be replaced.
