Uckfield teenager hopes to carry Olympic torch
Uckfield teenager Jade Earley is hoping to have chance to carry the Olympic torch as it travels through her home district on its tour of Britain.
Thirteen-year-old Jade has a one in eight chance of being a torch bearer having been through two previous rounds of the selection process.
Jade’s mother Nyree said she nominated her daughter to carry the torch because she has been a competitive swimmer since the age of eight and has also been a keen fund-raiser for the Trevor Mann baby unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
“We should hear on December 5 whether Jade has been selected. It is very exciting to hear the flame will be travelling through this area but even if Jade doesn’t carry it we are extremely proud of her,” said Nyree.
Jade attends Uckfield Community Technology College and lives on the Harlands Estate with Nyree, her father Mark, sisters Joolz and Gemma and brother Joel.
