Uckfield college wins grant to help create Olympic legacy

Uckfield Community Technology College has been awarded a grant of more than £6,500 to support other schools in the area to get involved in London 2012 and make the most of opportunities available through the official London 2012 education programme ‘Get Set’.

The college is a member of the Get Set network and one of 125 schools awarded a grant. It is the only school in Sussex to receive one. More than 600 schools applied.

The grant will help Uckfield Community Technology College create an Olympic and Paralympic legacy for the local community.

The London Organising committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games chairman Seb Coe said the Plan Your 2012 programme of grants would mean more schools and young people could be inspired by and benefit from local leadership and best practice in their area.

"Members of the Get Set network, like Uckfield Community Technology College, are brilliant advocates for London 2012, demonstrating what a positive difference linking learning to the Games can make to young people."

The grants are being funded by the Department for Education which worked closely with the Games organising committee to set up the Plan Your 2012 scheme.
