Olympic torch to bypass Uckfield

The Olympic torch relay is expected to bypass Uckfield on its tour of Britain.

Details have been released today (November 7) of where the flame will be carried between May 18 and July 27 next year.

On July 17 (Day 59) the torch leaves Brighton and heads for Crawley before going east via East Grinstead to Tunbridge Wells before turning south west for Crowborough, travelling through Uckfield and Lewes. It is expected to stop in Crowborough and in Lewes.

From the county town the torch will go to Eastbourne and then along the coast to finish the day at Hastings.

The street-by-street detail of the route will be confirmed next year, with Torchbearer places confirmed from February 2012.

The 70-day Olympic Torch Relay will start at Land’s End on May19 next year. The Flame will then travel an estimated 8,000 miles around the UK before it reaches London.

It is planned that the Flame will travel down the River Thames on 27 July 27 as it makes its way to the Olympic Stadium for the Opening Ceremony.
