Panels on barn could provide power for house and outbuildings

Nineteen photovoltaic panels could be installed on the roof of a barn to provide power for a farmhouse and outbuildings.

A planning application has been submitted to install the panels on  the roof of a concrete-framed barn at Shadwell Farm, Chillies Lane, High Hurstwood.

They would be attached to two aluminium cross rails attached to the roof by brackets.

Documents before Wealden Council say: "The main house is listed and careful consideration has been given to the location of the panels and their possible impact on their setting of the listed buidling."

They also say the location has been "carefully considered" to ensure their visual impact is minimised within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

"The proposal is for a small scale renewable energy development which will provide nearly all of the applicants' electricity requirements."
