Uckfield teenager successfully completes pier-to-pier challenge
Plucky Uckfield teenager Jade Earley successfully completed a challenging swim between Brighton’s two piers on Saturday and raised £2,000 for charity.
Mum Nyree told Uckfield News she was very proud of her 13-year-old daughter who competed with about 100 other swimmers.
Jade was 14th overall out of 39 women and first out of the water for Brighton Swimming Club which earned her a trophy. She completed the swim in 32 minutes and eight seconds.
Initially Jade set herself a target of raising £1,000 for the Trevor Mann intensive care ward where both her brother Joel and sister Gemma spent time as new-borns so she did well to raise £2,000.
Jade, a student at Uckfield Community Technology College, now has her sights set on swimming across the channel and is continuing to train in the sea to build up strength for the ordeal.
Nyree said: “She needs to get bigger before she will be able to do that but would like to do it by the time she is 16.”
The Trevor Mann ward has invited Jade to visit the unit to meet some of the parents whose babies are being helped there and see the babies too.
Here is the story we carried as Jade prepared for Saturday’s challenge: Plucky Uckfield girl in pier to pier swim to help baby unit.
